Cognitive and Psychological Sciences

About

The Cognitive and Psychological Sciences (CoPsy) Department is a leading center for the multidisciplinary study of mind, brain, and behavior.

Our Mission

CoPsy is dedicated to the interdisciplinary study of mind, brain, and behavior. Its mission is to conduct impactful state-of-the-art research, to teach, and to provide service to the University, to the broader professional community, and to society at large in these areas of scholarship. The department was founded on our continuing belief that progress in these domains requires scholarship spanning multiple levels of analysis and using a range of approaches and methodologies. Our department seeks to cultivate an environment where this intellectual synthesis can flourish, by building bridges between disciplines and encouraging interdisciplinary studies. This unique emphasis and approach has positioned CoPsy as a leading center among its peers for the study of mind, brain, and behavior.

Vision

We share a belief that transformational advances in our understanding of the mind, brain, and behavior will occur at the boundaries of disciplines, across levels of analysis, and through a diversity of approaches, paradigms, and perspectives. Our faculty conduct cutting-edge, award-winning research in these areas using a range of approaches and methods, and we are highly collaborative both inside and outside of Brown. Our community thrives through its shared values: diversity, innovation, collaboration, and committed mentorship.  We are dedicated to research, teaching and providing service to the University and the broader professional community.
